A viral infection can damage the heart even in those who were previously healthy, athletic and young.  Neele used to be a competitive athlete, but after she caught several infections, she remained extremely tired and listless for weeks.

Cardisiography is a heart screening test that detects certain diseases such as arteriosclerosis (hardening of the arteries) at an early stage. So far, cardiologist and internist Dr. Milan Dinic is the only Munich based doctor who works with this young technology from the start-up company Cardisio GmbH in his practice in downtown Munich (Theatinerstrasse 44). “The procedure works in principle in the same way as an ECG, in which the electrical signals of the heart are recorded for four minutes,” says Dr. Dinic. In this way, Jürgen Metz’s heart was also measured in three dimensions and tested using artificial intelligence (AI) methods. At the end of the approximately ten-minute evaluation is the Cardisio Index. “This gives me the precise overview of the patient’s risk of infarction,” says Dr. Dinic. And these data did not look good in the case of his patient Jürgen Metz. Out of four possible green points – index for a healthy heart – two points were red in his case. So Jürgen Metz became a case for the specialists at the German Heart Center, with whom Dr. Dinic cooperates.

“In such a situation, you can no longer think clearly at all. But the doctors, nurses and caregivers at the heart center were so nice and competent despite their enormous stress, that I quickly gained confidence,” says Jürgen Metz. The heart CT showed that he was already a high-risk patient. “All three heart arteries were 50 to 70 percent calcified. That shocked me. What would have happened if I had ignored the warning signs? I could have been one of those people who suddenly drops dead at 51.” On Nov. 29, Juergen Metz underwent surgery at the Heart Center. During the 90-minute, minimally invasive procedure – the specialists inserted three stents (vascular supports) via an access point on the right wrist through the artery to the narrow points – he was wide awake: “Very interesting! I just didn’t want to look at the monitors. Only two days later, his wife and daughter were allowed to take him home again. He now has to take medication for various blood values and blood pressure for the rest of his life – “my guarantee for a normal life.”

The good news also reached the Cardisio developers in Frankfurt. Meik Baumeister, CEO and co-founder of Cardisio, survived a heart attack himself and therefore knows what Jürgen Metz went through: “I am very happy that Cardisiography was able to save another life. And I thank innovative doctors like Dr. Dinic. Without them, new methods would never benefit people.” One month after the procedure, Jürgen Metz is feeling better again: “I think a lot about what is important in life. I have become more relaxed and will change some things.” And he wrote a letter to the editor. Title: “Reading the newspaper can save lives.” The editorial team was particularly pleased about this.

Nowadays, reduced blood flow and vascular stiffness of the heart can be detected at an early stage with the help of 3D examinations and artificial intelligence. Here, a patient tells us about his experiences with the “newfangled stuff” from his family doctor’s office. In the video, you can find out what diagnosis he received from a cardisiography and what happened to him afterwards.

We thank the patient very much for the description of his case!

Many thanks also to Dr. Wiechert and team for the assessment and processing!

The 69-year-old patient had unexplained symptoms for years and decided to have a Cardisiography with her cardiologist after a recommendation.

The screening revealed a 75 percent occlusion on the main vessel, which could be treated well with a stent. In the process, a possible heart attack was averted.

Cardiologist, Dr. Behrouz Kherad, explains this exciting Cardisio case.
